6 signs you're ready to work with a business coach

Have you ever felt like you’re standing on the edge of something big, but unsure if you’re truly ready?

Deciding to invest in coaching is a powerful choice, but it’s not just about finding the right coach; it’s also about showing up ready to do the work.

So, how do you know you’re ready? It starts with your mindset. Successful coaching requires six key attitudes that signal you’re prepared to dive deep, confront challenges, and transform your life. Let’s explore these attitudes and what they reveal about your readiness for coaching.

Willingness

The first sign you’re ready for coaching is a willingness to face the truth - about yourself, your habits, and your life.

Willingness means being open to change, even when it’s uncomfortable.

It’s the readiness to dive into uncertainty, risk rejection, and feel emotions you’ve been avoiding, all in the service of your growth.

What it looks like:

  • You’re tired of feeling stuck and are open to exploring why.

  • You’re willing to hear feedback, even if it’s challenging.

  • You’re ready to trade comfort for progress.

Ask yourself:

  • What am I willing to feel, face, or risk to create the life I truly want?

Note: There will be times where your answer is “no, I’m not willing to face and feel that right now”, or “no, I’m not willing to risk that outcome”. Your ability to be honest (one of the attitudes we’ll touch on shortly) as to where your willingness truly sits is the key for moving you forward.

Belief & Commitment

You trust that change is possible. Change starts with belief - belief in yourself, in the coaching process, and in your ability to create something better. When paired with commitment, belief becomes a driving force that propels you through challenges. Even if your belief isn’t perfect, acknowledging where you stand is the first step toward strengthening it.

What it looks like:

  • You believe coaching can help, even if you’re unsure of the exact outcome.

  • You’re ready to commit time, energy, and focus to the process.

  • You’re willing to show up consistently, even when it’s hard.

Ask yourself:

  • What would 100% commitment to my growth look like right now?

Note: Again, honesty is the transformative key that takes you to higher/deeper levels of commitment and belief. So, if you’re at 50/50, be honest about it instead of forcing 100%. If you don’t really believe that your inner work is working, be honest about it and watch your belief rise. This is what will put your commitment and belief levels in a position to create success in all areas of your life.

Curiosity

You’re open to learning about yourself. It’s the willingness to explore the reasons why you are the way you are and explore the answers without judgment. If you’re feeling curious about what’s beneath the surface of your habits and emotions, it’s a strong sign you’re ready for coaching.

What it looks like:

  • You’re open to new perspectives and willing to challenge your assumptions.

  • You treat triggers and frustrations as opportunities to learn.

  • You’re eager to understand the patterns shaping your life.

Ask yourself:

  • Why am I the way I am? What could I discover about myself if I stayed curious instead of judgmental?

Exploration

Transformation doesn’t happen from a distance. It requires you to actively engage with your inner world, not just think about it. If you’re ready to move beyond overthinking, analysing and start experiencing growth, you’re ready for coaching.

What it looks like:

  • You’re willing to try new approaches, even if they feel unfamiliar.

  • You’re ready to explore your emotions, rather than avoid them.

  • You trust that growth happens through action, not just reflection.

Ask yourself:

  • What would I learn if I explored this challenge instead of avoiding it?

Listening & Observing

Growth requires deep listening - to your body, your emotions, and your intuition. If you’re starting to notice patterns in your thoughts or feel a pull toward self-discovery, it’s a clear sign you’re ready for coaching.

What it looks like:

  • You’re beginning to notice recurring thoughts, feelings, or patterns.

  • You’re willing to sit with uncomfortable emotions instead of dismissing them.

  • You’re open to hearing the truths your body and intuition are trying to reveal.

Ask yourself:

  • If I truly listened to myself, what might I hear?

Honesty

You’re ready to own your truth. Honesty is the cornerstone of transformation. If you’re ready to be honest about where you are - what’s working, what’s not, and what you truly want - you’re ready to create meaningful change through coaching.

What it looks like:

  • You’re done making excuses and ready to take full responsibility for your growth.

  • You’re willing to admit when you’re stuck, scared, or uncertain.

  • You understand that honesty, even when it’s uncomfortable, is an act of self-love.

Ask yourself:

  • What truth am I avoiding, and what might change if I owned it?

What Happens When You’re Ready?

Imagine you’re setting out to climb a mountain. If you begin the climb doubting whether you’ll make it to the top, questioning your gear, or second-guessing every step, you’re already making the journey harder than it needs to be. On the flip side, if you ignore the challenges entirely, charging ahead without preparation or awareness, you’ll likely find yourself stuck - or worse, sliding backward.

True readiness means approaching the climb with curiosity, focus, and a willingness to adapt. You may not have all the answers, but you trust your ability to handle the journey, step by step. When you embody the six attitudes, you create the perfect mindset for climbing toward your goals and uncovering the transformation you seek.

The results of readiness:

  • You show up with intention - When you’re ready, every coaching session, self-reflection, and action feels purposeful. You’re not just “checking boxes” - you’re engaged in the process, knowing each step brings you closer to your goals.

  • You trust the process - Readiness isn’t about knowing exactly what’s ahead, it’s about believing that every insight and action is part of the bigger picture. You stop questioning whether coaching will work and start leaning into the process with confidence.

  • You achieve alignment - Instead of pushing through challenges with sheer force or ignoring them altogether, you find balance. You show up honest about where you are, open to what you need, and ready to align your actions with your goals.

  • You create results from the inside out - When you’re ready, you stop looking for quick fixes or external solutions. You realise that the most profound shifts come from addressing your inner blocks, rewiring your mindset, and creating lasting transformation from within.

Being ready for coaching doesn’t mean you’re fearless or fully prepared - it means you’re willing, curious, and committed. With the right mindset and these six attitudes, the results you’ve been seeking will become achievable, sustainable, and undeniably yours.
